DHS Disinformation Governance Board on Pause

Press Secretary Jean-Pierre says the work will continue.

The Department of Homeland Security is “pausing” its recently established disinformation board after roughly just three weeks, amid controversy over the effort and its leadership. The department made the decision earlier this week, which was followed by a resignation letter from Nina Jankowicz, who was hired to lead the board. However, there appears to be some uncertainty, as she has reportedly been given the option to stay employed at the agency, despite her position being paused.

Following animated discussions over the rollout of the board, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas acknowledged that they could “have done a better job of communicating what it is and what it isn’t.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a press briefing said, “Look, the board was put forth for a purpose, right. To make sure that we really did address what was happening across the country when it came to disinformation. it’s going to pause. There’s been a mischaracterization from outside forces, and so we are going to pause it, and we’re going to do an assessment. But the work doesn’t stop. We’re still going to continue the work. The DHS is still going to continue the work.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president’s administration to honor the Bill of Rights and Freedom of Speech as they craft their approach to disinformation.
  • For Secretary Mayorkas as he evaluates the administration’s emerging policy on disinformation.
  • For insight for officials in National Intelligence agencies as they assess international information.
